glazing system

Loggia and balcony glazing turn extra square metres into real usable space for many months a year — and for years to come. We treat the balcony as a separate living zone: bright, visually light and functional.

Quieter indoors

Reduction of external noise by up to 50%.

Wind protection

Comfortable balcony use even in bad weather.

More months of use

Extended balcony season from early spring to late autumn.

Full opening in summer

Freedom to fold glass panels for full ventilation.

Two balcony enclosure options

The selected option has a direct impact on comfort, aesthetics and installation scope. Below we compare the two most common solutions for balcony glazing in Lumon frameless systems.

Option A: on the balustrade (from handrail to ceiling)

Best for

For balconies where the priority is maximizing usable space and allowing flexible furniture layout.

Advantages

  • the balcony enclosure does not reduce everyday usable space
  • easier furniture placement near the wall and full panel opening above a sofa or table

Technical constraints

  • suitable technical conditions are required for fixing upper profiles to the building structure
  • with thick insulation on the balcony slab edge, additional preparation may be required

What to verify before installation

  • sealing gaps near the balustrade and floor
  • sheet-metal flashings or seals in corners and endings
  • in selected layouts, additional fixed glazing on the neighbour side

Option B: full height (from floor to ceiling)

Best for

For investors who expect a uniform, minimalist glass surface effect and fewer additional finishing works.

Advantages

  • consistent visual effect of balcony glazing from floor to ceiling
  • smaller scope of sealing works around the existing balustrade

Technical constraints

  • frameless systems require enough space for smooth sliding and folding of panels
  • larger enclosure area can increase cost and affect available balcony space

What to verify before installation

  • analysis of opening collisions with furniture, plants and equipment
  • verification of load-bearing capacity and enclosure weight at design stage
  • rail layout adjusted to actual balcony use

Practical comparison

This quick comparison helps assess which balcony enclosure option better fits apartment layout, furniture plan and expected visual effect.

CriteriaOption A: on balustradeOption B: full height
Usable spaceMaximum balcony area retained.Part of the area is used by enclosure zone in front of balustrade.
Furniture layoutVery good, including full opening above sofa or table.Requires planned clearance for panel movement.
Additional worksMore often requires sealing and flashings around balustrade.Usually less sealing work near balustrade.
CostDepends on installation conditions and sealing scope.Increases with enclosure area and weight.
Aesthetic effectLight effect integrated with existing balustrade.Uniform glass surface from floor to ceiling.
Structural requirementsCorrect fixing of upper profiles is critical.Requires detailed load and opening-collision analysis.

Technical qualification before installation

Each balcony enclosure requires an individual technical assessment. This ensures balcony glazing installation is safe, durable and adapted to real on-site conditions.

Why glazed enclosures?

Glass enclosures turn a balcony or loggia into a bright living zone — for rest, work and everyday comfort. No heavy frames, with elegant detail and freedom to open.

1.

Full opening in summer

You slide the panels fully or partially — as convenient. When you want, you return to full contact with fresh air, without heavy frames and without a sense of enclosure.

2.

Comfort regardless of weather

When it is windy or raining, you close the system and gain a bright, sheltered space. The balcony then becomes a peaceful retreat with a view — for relaxation, reading, work or family time.

3.

Quieter indoors

Reduced external noise, more peace every day. It is a real relief especially in the city: less street noise and more privacy and comfort at home.

4.

More months of use

The balcony and loggia become functional from spring to late autumn. Instead of dead space you gain extra usable metres that you use for most of the year.

SYSTEM DETAILS

A system refined in every detail, quality that makes you feel exceptional…

Additional features and values of the Lumon frameless glazing system.

MORE GLASS, LESS PROFILES

Subtle lines, glass dominance

When developing the system the company strives to maximally reduce profile dimensions while increasing their strength. The main design goal is to create a frameless sliding-opening system where aluminium profiles form subtle lines that do not visually disrupt the space. The dominant proportion of glass gives the feeling of being outdoors even when inside.

The entire enclosure is installed on a bottom profile 5 cm wide and a top profile 7 cm wide. The bottom profile can be completely built in and hidden in the floor. This means there are no protruding thresholds that could be an obstacle — for example when stepping out into the garden.

OPENING AND CLOSING

Various opening and closing solutions

Low enclosure on a balustrade or wall is opened with a pull-up handle. Subsequent panels are slid and opened using handles mounted in the bottom rail of each panel.

Tall enclosure can be opened with a pull-up handle or a full lock with a single or double-sided handle, usually installed where entry from outside is possible. A cylinder and key additionally allow the enclosure to be fully locked.

Special handles can be fitted on tall panels to keep the glass clean. Some clients prefer an unobstructed view through the glass — in that case we do not install handles. Additionally, transparent sealing strips can be fitted between panels — they can be applied by the user in winter to increase thermal comfort.

LIGHTING

Built-in LED lighting in the roof rafters allows the enclosed space to be used without time restrictions.

BLINDS

A beneficial addition to the system is the installation of dedicated blinds for each panel, independently adjustable up and down — on both side walls and the glass roof.

SAFETY

Certified materials, guaranteed safety

All Lumon products hold certificates and approvals for use in construction. Extruded aluminium profiles are made from high-quality structural aluminium, powder-coated in any RAL colour.

Glass in the sliding system is safe, tempered glass. Roof glass consists of laminated layers of safe tempered glass. All of this guarantees safe everyday use.
